On June 17, 2023, I delivered a commemorative lecture titled “Future, Space, and Imagination” at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the JAXA Tsukuba Space Center. The topics included the importance of asking good questions, the International Baccalaureate, learning English, the nature of science fiction, and the concept of science fiction prototyping. I also discussed the popularity of science fiction in China, Elon Musk’s innovative rockets, and science fiction ideas for JAXA.

I introduced various science fiction films in my talk. I highly recommend that JAXA personnel watch “For All Mankind,” which requires Apple TV+ registration but is available on a free trial. The drama series “Foundation” is also excellent. Of course, reading the original novel is also a rewarding experience. I wish I could have spoken more, but time was limited.

The ceremony was attended by guests, including JAXA officials, representatives from various ministries and agencies, Tsukuba City-related personnel, and cooperating companies, as well as junior high and high school students. It would be wonderful if this event sparked greater interest among young people in space and science fiction.

Astronaut MOHRI Mamoru also spoke at the ceremony. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to greet him, but I was impressed by his personality and the sincere manner in which he answered questions during his speech.

Once again, congratulations on the 50th anniversary of JAXA Tsukuba Space Center!
